Remedial Massage

Brenda joined the team at Blackburn Allied Health Group after completing a Diploma of Remedial Massage, having previously worked as a Chemical and Process Engineer and in various industries over the years before taking the plunge and answered her true inner calling.

In 2021, Brenda decided to take some time off to do a full career reset and figure out what next in her life journey. It was through this time of deep reflection; Brenda made the decision to embark on a career that would see her help others through healing.

Her deep passion for learning and exploring human anatomy and physiology, pathology and the intricacies and complexness of the human body alongside her desire to heal others through massage are what drives and motivates her. All this coupled with her strengths in troubleshooting and problem solving are all instrumental in helping make her an effective therapist when treating her clients.

Brenda employs a wide range of techniques when treating, taking time to understand the aetiology of each of her client’s presentations to optimise the treatment outcome. She uses a combination of Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue/Trigger Point therapy, Active Release / Positional Release / Muscle Energy Techniques, assisted and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching in her treatment repertoire.

Brenda has a keen interest in treating postural misalignment and dysfunction, neck, upper back and shoulder complaints, cervicogenic headaches, TMJ pain, hip and idiopathic lower back, knee and calf pain. She is focussed in making sure the treatment does not end when the client walks out the door, but rather tries to empower them to be part of the healing journey by prescribing corrective strengthening exercises and stretches for her clients to take home.

Brenda also understands what it is like to have to suffer through the scourge of lower back pain, having injured her back many years ago. She has also raised three active and athletic children – who are now 25, 18 and 14. As a mother, she has nurtured and supported each and every one of them through their various pursuits of competitive sports i.e.. rowing, swimming or ballet dancing – and as such, has seen them go through and recover from their share of a wide range of injuries spanning many body parts!

In her spare time, Brenda enjoys hiking and walking, painting, and cooking up a storm in the kitchen.
